presents the annual Spong Lecture Series
Becoming the Church of Tomorrow
Popular author, priest and prophetic leader The Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers offers the Spong Lecture on Saturday, May 9, at 10:30 a.m. Drawing on her new book, Church Tomorrow?: What the ‘Nones’ and ‘Dones’ Teach Us About the Future of Faith, she will help us to wrestle with the decline of traditional religion and the voices of nonreligious Millennials and Gen Zers. Why have they opted out of church? Where are they finding God and community? What would they tell churches if we would only listen? And what does it all mean for the church’s future? Join us and find out!
Rev. Spellers is the author of The Church Cracked Open and Radical Welcome and serves as Canon in Residence at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in New York City. Before that, she spent nearly a decade serving alongside Presiding Bishop Michael Curry and overseeing the Episcopal Church’s ministries of evangelism, racial reconciliation, church planting, ethnic ministries and environmental justice.
