ABOUT GUEST SPEAKER
On March 25th, St. Peter’s Morristown continues the annual Spong lecture series with the Rev. Dr. Carolyn Sharp of Yale Divinity School.
Professor Sharp’s research explores the poetics, narrative art, and theology of biblical texts as resources for homiletical theory and practice. She is interested in ways preaching can catalyze the formation of the Christian community via insights from biblical studies, feminist perspectives on power, eco-theology, and emancipatory pedagogy. Her books include a commentary on Jeremiah 26–52 (2021); a commentary on Joshua (2019); The Prophetic Literature (2019); Wrestling the Word: The Hebrew Scriptures and the Christian Believer (2010); and Irony and Meaning in the Hebrew Bible (2009). Professor Sharp has edited or co-edited six volumes, including The Oxford Handbook of the Prophets (2016) and Feminist Frameworks and the Bible: Power, Ambiguity, and Intersectionality (with Juliana Claassens; 2017). Professor Sharp is a member of the Academy of Homiletics, the Societas Homiletica, the Society of Biblical Literature, the Society of Biblical Theologians, and the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality. An Episcopal priest, she regularly preaches at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Essex and elsewhere.

ABOUT SPONG LECTURE SERIES
The St. Peter’s Annual Spong Lecture Series had its beginnings in the lectures of Bishop Spong during his tenure as bishop. In 2011, he and his wife started an endowment for a lecture series to bring in an innovative and compelling speaker.
ABOUT JBWS
"In 1976, a small group of women in Morris County began a helpline to aid victims of domestic violence. When two of these callers were murdered by their husbands, the need for a confidential shelter became urgent. From its grass-roots beginnings, Jersey Battered Women’s Service opened its shelter doors to the community in late December 1978. Today, the agency has grown into a full-service, private, nonprofit domestic violence agency with programs that provide safety, support and solutions for all survivors of abuse..."
We hope you will attend this years special Spong Lecture where 100% of proceeds will go to JBWS: Jersey Battered Women's Services.
