Funerals

St. Peter's Church is committed to respectful and joyous celebrations of the lives of those who have died. The clergy of the parish are available to conduct funerals and memorial services for anyone upon request. The deceased need not have been a member of the parish or, for that matter, even a Christian. If a funeral, we accommodate either ashes or a casket; if a memorial service, of course neither ashes nor casket will be present.
Services are conducted in accordance with the Episcopal Church's Book of Common Prayer 1979, using either traditional or modern language. While it is customary to have a Eucharist with Holy Communion, the Burial Office can be used without it, as appropriate. Family and friends will be asked to choose the Lessons from the Bible, and where possible, to read them during the service. A booklet with Lesson choices is available.
Burial can be in our Memorial Garden or at a cemetery of the family's choice. The clergy will conduct the Committal in either case.
Some fees are charged for various services; please call Marie Patterson (973.538.0555, x10) or send her an email (mpatterson@stpetersmorristown.org) for these charges. The clergy will be happy to waive or reduce fees in situations of need.
Attached at the bottom of this page, and linked in the bullet points below, are three PDF documents useful when planning funerals and memorial services. (If you need Adobe Acrobat Reader, you can download it here.)
- Readings. The family is asked to make two selections from the attached readings; one selection is a reading from the Old Testament, the other is a Psalm.
- Information for Christian Burial. This is a form that is completed by folks who desire to plan their own funeral.
- Fees Schedule for Funerals and Memorial Garden.
