Janet and her family at the Patricia Broderick Exhibition

Patricia BroderickJanet's mother, Patricia Broderick (in photo at right), was an artist and writer.  An exhibition of her work, "Paintings and Works on Paper," opened in New York on April 30 of this year.  Janet says:

She died four years ago, so it was an emotional experience for me and for my family to see her work on the walls and all the different visions of the world she had.

Person in Landscape, 1999My mother was both strong and sensitive. She was funny, and she understood tragedy. I think of the late nights in the kitchen with her on Washington Square North. She would be smoking a cigarette (she did that) and telling me about a poem, or a new idea, or a play she read.

My mother was a woman who was true to herself and to her own thinking, and I loved that about her.
