Concert Weekend:  October 11 & 12

October 2008 - The internationally acclaimed choir Gloriæ Dei Cantores ("Singers to the Glory of God") releases two new recordings and launches its 10th United States Tour with a concert at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in downtown Morristown, NJ on Sunday, October 12 at 3:00pm, pre-concert lecture at 2:00pm. The concert is part of Music at St. Peter's Concert Series -  tickets are $30 Preferred seating; $20 General admission; $15 Seniors and Students.  For more information or tickets, call 973-538-0555.

In addition to the concert, the Gloriæ Dei Cantores Schola will conduct a workshop on Gregorian Chant on Saturday, October 11 from 9:00am - 11:00am.

The concert program opens with a brass fanfare, followed by Gregorian chant, and features Anglican psalmody, early English polyphony by Byrd, Tallis, and Dering, Russian Orthodox liturgical music by Chesnokov, Tchaikovsky, and Rachmaninoff, contemporary American anthems by Adler, Rorem, and Sowerby, and "Messe Solennelle" by French composer Jean Langlais. Gabriel V Brass Quintet, and organists David Chalmers and James Jordan will join Gloriæ Dei Cantores on tour, performing works for organ and brass by Langlais, Messiaen, and others.

In addition to the concert and Chant workshop, Gabriel V Brass Quintet will perform a concert of brass and organ works at First Presbyterian Church on Friday, October 10 in Red Bank, NJ. Additional cities on the Fall 2008 tour include performances in New York City, Cleveland, Chicago, Indianapolis, Durham NC and West Columbia, S.C.

With a discography of 45 recordings, Gloriæ Dei Cantores sings in 18 languages and has toured 24 countries celebrating a rich tradition of sacred choral repertoire spanning two millennia. Under Elizabeth Patterson's interpretive vision and inspired direction, the choir has received international renown for its artistic elegance, performance authenticity, and respect for cultural integrity.

Gloriæ Dei Cantores is pleased to add two new recordings to their critically acclaimed catalog just in time for this tour - an anthology of Anglican Psalmody: His Love Endures Forever: Psalms of Thankfulness and Praise and a sparkling new Christmas collection Be Merry! featuring five original and many familiar arrangements of well-loved carols accompanied by handbells, brass, organ, and piano.
