Advocacy
Advocacy seeks to know who the people in need in our local, national, and global communities are; to understand the issues and challenges facing these people; to present a unified point of view on these issues; and, to look for opportunities where we can lend support.
Current Opportunities
The Outreach Commission supports the following organizations through advocacy:
African Team Ministries - This program provides for the needs of the poor in the East African countries of Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. Particular attention is given to supporting the Church of East Africa in its effort to help children attend school. Funds for this program are raised at St. Peter's through the sale of distinctive jewelry and crafts made by independent Africans.
Bishops Blend Coffee (Episcopal Relief & Development) - Bishops Blend is certified Fair Trade, organic and shade-grown. This means that coffee farmers are paid a fair living wage and gain access to affordable credit, and that the growing methods help protect the environment. Additionally, funds help small farmers build better lives for themselves and their families. Funds for this program are raised through tastings at St. Peter's.
