The Buildings

ChurchSt. Peter's Episcopal Church is one of the most prominent architectural features in Morristown. It sits on a campus of two-plus acres and is comprised of three main buildings and two others: (1) the church (built in the years 1887-1907); (2) the rectory (built in 1897); and (3) the parish house (built in 1914).  The campus also contains an adjacent recently renovated building used on weekdays by the Collinsville Child Care Center and a two-family house on a separate but adjacent lot.

Recent improvements to St. Peter's Church have made our buildings more visible and more welcoming to people passing.  Some of the more notable improvements have been: new signs in the front of the church with night illumination and a major tree trimming of the lower branches on all our trees to improve the sightlines to our church.

The day-to-day management of the property is accomplished with a full-time Director of Facilities Management who is a member of the rector's staff, and active Co-Chairpersons of the Building and Grounds Committee (one parishioner leads Buildings and another leads Grounds).

The Grounds

While the buildings dominate, the grounds provide a staging of the buildings.  In recent years, we have spent time and money working with a landscape architect to enhance the grounds. The Grounds Committee, along with volunteers, donates a day in the fall and spring to do a major clean-up and address some needed repairs.  In addition, throughout the year there are some parishioners who work diligently to maintain various gardens throughout the campus.

There is a Rectory garden for the pleasure or privacy of a Rector and family who might enjoy cultivating as well as planters on the side porch of the Rectory.
